Angela Merriken, RPYT, CLC, HHC, PPD
Angie wants to live in a world where every family feels comfortable and confident with their pregnancy and birth.
After graduating in 2000 with a BS in Biology, she spent five years in the Mid-Atlantic educating middle school students about the awesome-ness of science. While living on the East coast, she grabbed the opportunity to attend the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC, learning from experts like Dr. Andrew Weil, Deepak Chopra, Dr. Walter Willet, Dr. Oz and numerous others. She completed her studies there in 2008 with a certificate in Holistic Health Coaching.
In 2009, while pregnant with her first child, Angie participated in her first prenatal yoga class and fell in love. Being a yoga practitioner for years, she decided to complete her yoga teacher certification in 2011 and her prenatal yoga certification in 2013, both with Yoga Alliance. She believes that her taking and teaching yoga during pregnancy was so beneficial to her pregnancy, labor and postpartum that she wanted to share it with others. As a Prenatal Yoga Instructor, she has helped pregnant women cope with the ever-changing shifts in their bodies.
She was given the opportunity in 2014 to work with a fantastic group of women at the Mercy Birth Center as a Childbirth and Healthy Pregnancy educator. As part of her continued education with Mercy, she completed her Birth Doula training along with her Lactation Consulting Certification. As a Childbirth Educator, she has guided many families in creating the birth experience they envision.
Now she is so lucky and excited to have joined another group of fabulous women at Parenting Resources and working with the community in which she lives. They have given her the chance to expand her classes and services, including work as a Postpartum Doula.
When she’s not teaching, you can find her spending time with her two kids, husband and Golden Retriever; usually outside somewhere playing in the dirt or water.
